Sending you a Postcard: Happy Easter from Sydney!

Kerran kun Australiassa ollaan, niin pitäähän äidinkin Sydney nähdä :) Siispä lensin taas Australian mantereen halki (5h) Perthistä Sydneyyn äidin kanssa Pääsiäislomaa sinne viettämään. Ihana viikonloppu getaway, vaihtelua koulusta ja Unihallista (jee, kerrankin saa itse päättää mitä syö, milloin syö ja jopa terveellisesti!) Vaikka itse olin Sydneyssä jo toista kertaa riitti kaupungissa uutta nähtävää ja jäi vielä jäljellekin tuttujen Oopperatalojen lisäksi.

Vietimme paljon aikaa satama-alueella, mistä lempparini edelleen on The Rocks kaupunginosa, kävelimme Harbour Bridgen läpi (upeat maisemat), söimme useammassa ravintolassa, teimme pitkän lenkin Botanic Gardensissa... Lisäksi kävimme esim Manlylla ja Blue Mountainsilla tunnin parin hikella (toiset vesiputoukset Katoomballa, check! Tosin Wentworth Falls edelleen mielestäni parhaimmat) Reissussa oli juuri sopivasti suurkaupungin vilinää sekä huikeita luonnon maisemia.

Matkalla tapahtui myös hauskoja yhteensattumia. Perjantai-iltana näin Sydneyssä vaihdossa olevaa kaveriani Aallosta, ja kehes muihinkaan sitten törmäsin kuin pariin muuhun aaltolaiseen Uudesta-Seelannista, jotka yhtälailla olivat Sydneyssä lomailemassa sekä vielä neljänteen aaltokaveriin kadulla ohi kulkiessa. Tänne toiselle puolelle maailmaa tultu ja silti vanhat kunnon tutut kävelevät tiellä vastaan hahah. Pieni maailma. Illalla mentiin ulos Sydneyn yöhön, nimittäin Chinatownin karaokebaariin vaihtariporukalla. Ei ehkä ihan mitä odotin, mutta hauskaa oli silti :)

Once in Australia of course my mom needed to see Sydney as well :) So we flew across the whole continent from Perth to Sydney (5 hours) to spend four days there during Easter. It was a lovely weekend getaway and there were new things for me as well even tho' it was my second time in the city. Also it was nice to have bit of a change from campus life (for once I can actually eat healthy and what I want and when I want, whipee!)

We spent lot of time in the harbour area, The Rocks neighbourhood remaining as my favourite place. We walked through Harbour Bridge (great views!), ate in different restaurants, went for a walk in Botanic Gardens.. Also we went to the Manly Beach and to Blue Mountains (my second waterfalls in Katoomba, check! Though Wentworth Falls still are my favourite ones.) Our long weekend had just the right amount of busy citylife and amazing nature.

There were also a few funny coincidences along the way. On Friday night I met my friend from Aalto University now studying in UTS in Sydney, and who else I met there than two other Aalto fellows from New Zealand spending their Easter holidays in Sydney as well. And then on the streets we happened to run into a fourth friend from Aalto just by coimcidence. I came all the way to the other side of the world and here I am, running into my old friends from Finland. Small funny world :)
